ReadingPals has served Marion County since 2012. Last school year we served
over 200 children a week. Did you know that there is a program powered by United Way of Marion County that Distributed 6,943 books to the children of Marion County last year? That this same program has distributed over 35,000 books since it started in 2012? The ReadingPals program has done all that and provided foundational literacy support to kindergartners in 19 schools in Marion County, too!
School will be starting soon, and we would love to have you join us. Volunteers can be found in selected school on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 26th. Just one hour each day volunteers read to kindergartners a pre-selected district approved book. Each Thursday, the student is given the book for their very own collection. Here is a link to a short video:
It is easy to join the team, a two-hour workshop, and an approved background screening through the school district at no cost to you. Join us as we make a difference in the lives of children as they need to learn to read so they can read to learn.
Another way we can help the ReadingPals program is by doing a book drive! We will be collecting new and used books now through Sunday, July 30th to donate to the kids of the ReadingPals program. Specifically they are looking for picture books for VPK - Kindergarten aged students. You can bring in the books to the church office during the week or there will be a donation basket in the back of the church on Sunday's.
