Mary Baggs Interview

1- What’s your ‘go to’ bible verse to get you through the day?

I press on toward the goal, to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

2- Briefly tell us about a recent fun activity you and or your family participated in and why.

We recently co-hosted the book signing of Craig’s father’s biography, the Life of Bill Baggs, with Jaye Baillie and the Marion Cultural Alliance with author, Amy Paige Condon. While Baggs worked tirelessly for civil rights, conservation and peace as editor of the Miami News, he befriended and work closely with the man on the street to Presidents, yet became very close friends with the late Reverend Theodore Gibson of Christ Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove, Fl and the late Bishop James L. Duncan, Central Florida Diocese. Note: Bishop Duncan married Craig and me, and Reverend Gibson attended.

3- Do you have a recipe or take-out meal recommendation you’d like to share? If recipe, describe briefly and members can email you if interested.

We have a second home on the Georgia seacoast, where the sweet shrimp are plenty. When there, I initiate the ‘shrimp challenge’ which means all meals must include shrimp, and must be made from a different recipe, I have many. Back home in Ocala, my shrimp casserole is our Christmas Eve tradition!

4- With Advent around the corner, tell us about your family Advent tradition or how you prepare (above and beyond daily Bible study) for our saviors birth in your home.

We love the tradition of lighting the candles on the Advent wreath, reading the corresponding verses and wait with excitement to light the Christ candle on Christmas Day, singing Happy Birthday to Jesus with cake for Christmas day dessert.
