Lent at Grace

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

This Lenten Season we are working hard to prepare a memorable Lenten season for you. Below you will find information about two exciting events at Grace during Lent, A Healing Season led by Deacon Susan and Visio Divina led by Deacon Mary. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to grow closer to God during the season of Lent!

A Healing Season, a Lenten Journey

This Lenten season Grace will be offering “A Healing Season, a Lenten Journey” on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, from February 17 through March 17.

This lenten season join Deacon Susan Moorehead as she leads us through the healing ministry of Jesus and hear how others have seen the healing power of Jesus’ love. This is a time of great challenge but the healing power of Jesus never stops. This 5-session on-line series will be at 7pm on Wednesdays beginning February 17 and will continue through March 17. To sign up email projects@graceocala.org.

Session 1 – Jesus Heals the Centurion’s Servant

Session 2 – Healing the Man Born Blind

Session 3 – Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy

Session 4 – Do You Want to BE Made Well

Session 5- Jesus Heals to Make People Whole

Visio Divina

On Tuesdays at 6pm from February 23 through March 30, in place of Evening Prayer, we will pray using Visio Divina, “divine seeing.” Visio Divina is related to the prayer form Lectio Divina, “divine reading,” that we offered earlier this year. But instead of reflecting on Scripture alone, this form of contemplative prayer uses visual elements to help set our minds on prayer. It allows God to speak into our hearts through images. Praying through art is a multi-sensory way to connect to God through prayer. We will use works of art but other images that may be used in Visio Divina are stained glass windows, icons, and even images of nature.

We all interact with the physical and spiritual worlds in different ways. Some of us respond best to the written word, some to the spoken word, some to music, some to art, and some to movement. We can connect to God in prayer through each of these ways. Though we may have a preferred sense through which we pray, the richest prayer life will come through experiencing God through all our senses.

We invite you to open your hearts to what might be a new experience of prayer this Lent. Our times of Visio Divina will be held over Zoom so we may have a shared experience even if we cannot gather together in person. You may participate in one session, all of them or as many as you want. Each will be unique. To learn more or to get the Zoom link, contact Deacon Mary@graceocala.org.
