Adam Pryor’s Five Favorite Films

STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

I love this iconic movie, because of all it represents in culture and family dynamics. There is no doubt that this movie is one of the most popular and widely acclaimed movies of all time. It turned audiences on their heads with its famous plot twist. While the prequel trilogy has the best light saber duels and force manipulation, the original trilogy was revolutionary in its story telling, character development, and special effects for its time. Never forget that Star Wars is about a dysfunctional family. “No. I am your father.” 9/10.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

The Empire Strikes Back of our generation. Infinity War not only left probably the biggest plot twist in a decade, but it stepped outside of the superhero genre to finally tell a compelling story about a villain. Infinity War is Thanos’s movie through and through. Although we know that Thanos is morally wrong, we see his point of view from start to finish and see how he truly believes he is doing what is best for the universe. “I am inevitable.” 9/10.

MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS

This is a feel good movie for music teachers. Mr. Holland’s Opus tells the story of Glenn Holland’s career as a music teacher from the 1960s though the 1990s. He always has this big dream of becoming a composer, but finds that his students and his family are the most fulfilling things in his life. “A teacher has two jobs; fill young minds with knowledge, yes, but more important, give those minds a compass so that that knowledge doesn't go to waste.”

8/10.

MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL

Probably the wackiest movie I have ever seen and thoroughly enjoyed. There are so many quotable lines from this movie that will either make you laugh or groan. A stupid masterpiece. “Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!”

8/10.

THE DARK KNIGHT

Hands down the best Batman movie there has ever been. Before Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman movies were campy and cartoon-y. Nolan gave Batman grit, conviction, and a dark origin story that made him feel real. On top of that, Dark Knight features Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as The Joker and gives us a true, psychotic villain that is just evil for evil’s sake. “Some men just want to watch the world burn.” 9/10.
